Fun in the snow
Winter Activities
Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses- but that can be pretty tough to accomplish in winter in the Catskills. So we substituted roses for some bourbon and a beautiful fireplace! There is so much to do in Tannersville during the winter time. It can be incredibly cold but there are tons of great little spots to warm up.
The Deer Mountain Inn is one of the first places we found as a refuge from our never ending project. It’s amazing and if you have a chance to stay there, eat there or at least get a drink there do not pass it up. This spot was fairly recently restored to it’s original glory and has a staff of amazingly talented people to make you feel right at home. Josh and I frequently ran away from the house and curled up by the fireplace surrounded by warm wood and fabulous food to day dream about what our house would eventually be like.
Here’s an insider tip- sit at in the bar area and do not miss the burger or the fried chicken (we normally order both). They’re FANTASTIC and so are all their cocktails.
We also found that Murphman is a huge fan of the snow and will spend hours chasing snowballs if you’ll let him. He’s also a snowman serial killer but we’re trying not to let that bother us. It felt great to pull ourselves out of the dark and dingy first floor to run around and cut up with him.
Josh also did a solo ski trip since I’m not a skier by any means. Hunter Mountain is about 6 minutes from the house and I hunted around in our local antique shops looking for inspiration while he hit the slopes.
